"FORTNIGHTLY "
October 20, 2007

This bulletin will come on alternate Saturday mornings to provide a quick summary of what is happening in the Diocese and beyond. Rectors, especially those in the DHC, may wish to copy this Fortnightly to parishioners who have e-mail, or to have parishioners’ e-mail addresses sent to afdv1@yahoo.com.

Summerville – the Federation of Anglican Churches in the Americas met on October 9. Representing the Diocese were Bps. Hewett and Farmer, and Frs. Young and Angell. The Federation formally received the Diocese as a member, and voted unanimously to become a partner in Common Cause. FACA now represents over 500 parishes in seven jurisdictions. Copies of the Articles of the Federation are available at http://anglicanfederation.org/articles.html.
Regarding the Common Cause Partnership: Bishop Walter Grundorf, Presiding Bishop of the Anglican Province of America (one of the Common Cause Partners) has a very helpful way of expressing our relationship to Common Cause, and I would like to quote from his most recent Bishop’s Epistle: “There are differences among some of the Partners in areas of theology, particularly on the ordination of women, and therefore it is a partnership arrangement (not communion)...It is...important...that we are supportive of the courageous actions and steps that are being taken by those still in the Episcopal Church as they prepare to separate and endure the endless lawsuits that will inevitably ensue...The important thing to remember is that the APA will remain a separate and distinct jurisdiction and will continue as a classical expression of Anglicanism...As we are engaged in this Partnership we have the opportunity to provide a prophetic voice for catholic faith and order. Those who have recently left or are now leaving the Episcopal Church who are creedally orthodox have been influenced by the culture of the Episcopal Church and have strayed in areas that I have mentioned above. We of the APA have the opportunity, as we are engaged in the CCP, to be a counter-witness for worship style, approach to evangelism and style of rhetoric.” (p. 1)

I would add to Bishop Grundorf’s remarks something he endorses, that the Common Cause Partnership is a way for our various orthodox jurisdictions to have a connection with a re-aligned and orthodox Anglican Communion.

My own prediction is that just as communism fell in the West (it is a system that does not work, because it is not based on reality) so too will the ordination of women fall, along with all the issues that cluster around it. It will fall for the same reason: it does not work, because it is not based on reality. It was never part of God’s plan, and it does not accord with the mind of Christ.
